“I don’t understand why people want a gay Disney prince/princess. Disney represents classic ideals and “old-fashioned” values. Having an LGBT character doesn’t support that. And frankly, I like it better that way.”
A gay Disney character is a NO, NO. JUST NO. Sorry gays, but it doesn’t suit Disney AT ALL. You want a gay cartoon? you make your own gay prince cartoon.
hi you’re wrong
if it means learning animation and doing everything my-fucking-self i WILL see an LGBT-centric disney-styled flick before i die.
How is Mulan “classic ideals and old-fashion values?” She disobeyed her father, impersonated a soldier, and destroyed half of the palace. And it would have only taken her one of these offences to have her executed. Women we killed for acting out, for even trying to break the gender roles of Chinese society at the time.
Jasmine ran away from home and ended up marrying a street rat. She wouldn’t have ever met him. Like in Mulan, she should have been severely punished for everything she did in the films.
All of the Disney films have been sugar coated to make it child friendly.
All of them are about family values, but as time progresses those values change with the times. At the time Snow White was made, they would have been outraged to see a film with a girl fighting in a war, let alone leading an army.
Family values change, the definition of family has changed, and is still changing.
What is to say that we won’t have a lesbian Disney princess? Or maybe a gay prince? We’ve already had someone somewhat genderqueer. Next step, a trans woman princess.
Think about it.
^ THANK YOU!
this, yeah ^^
Interestingly enough when I was younger I always thought Mulan wanted to be a boy. That song she sings totally touched me. “Who is that girl I see staring straight back at me? When will my reflection show who I am inside?”
I totally thought she was talking about being a boy on the inside.
I think that we’re underestimating Disney and the future.….Dont you guys realize that most of the top guys at disney are super gay? My mom used to work at disney, and the joke around the studio about the LA big wigs was about how they model all their films after broadway musicals.
Also if you look under the edge of things enough in Disney you can notice a LOT of LGBT undertones. Yeah its all made squeaky clean and straight and ‘safe’ to appeal to mass audiences, but if you look closer you can fid the influences.
AND I also think that people wanting to see LGBT characters well represented in DISNEY are out of luck for at least another 10 years. I’m not being negative or opposed to the idea, I just think for a mainstream company like Disney that spends so much energy working to appeal to the mass audiences for PROFIT and to maintain their image, they wont do it. At least not anytime soon.
If I was you guys I’d petiton dreamworks or some other company with animation studios, they are more willing to push limits and rock the boat for views since they dont have a billion dollar image to uphold.
Hm…I think Dreamworks sorta kinda maybe already did a movie with an implied homosexual relationship with The Road to El Dorado, but I don’t mind another one with a LGBT prince/princess! :D
